Inspiration for becoming a Trainer: Hello and welcome to my page. My name is Bruce Byars and I love food!
My love affair with food began in the '70's, when healthy eating was not a major concern for our family. The introduction of T.V. Dinners, Fast-Food, and T.V. Trays made it easier than ever to eat with the family, watch a movie, and relax all at the same time!
Over the years due to the lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle, my weight rapidly increased. At age 8, I had a 34” waist and was one of the biggest kids in the class. I reduced my weight in my teens, but the weight began to re-appear, 180 became 220 from sophomore year to junior year,
For the next several years I battled with the "Weight-Roller coaster", lose 20 and gain 30, lose 50 and gain 60. Hundreds of dollars spent on the latest diets promising instant results, eating things I never thought I would, all the while setting myself up for failure and 350 was showing up in that little scale window. You see, no one told me I had to change my behavior to keep my weight regulated. When my dieting was through, I thought I could go back to eating my old favorites and just keep an eye on the scale. I didn't understand that the foods I consumed were actually increasing my fat storage and making it that much harder each time I would try to lose the weight again.
The poor training continued throughout most of my adult life and it was the loss of my mother, a brother, and a sister to obesity, poor health, and heart disease that made me get serious. I began changing my behavior to a “Live-It” attitude and committed myself to a lifestyle change that would have no end, it would become part of my life and in doing so extend my time with my loved ones and not worry about becoming a burden to them as old age nears. I am now 175 pounds with about 16% body fat – I am 50 years young going on 30!
Qualities I enjoy in a client: Those who understand that falling out of shape didn't happen over-night, getting in shape will not happen with one or two workouts.
My mission as a trainer: Help as many individuals achieve their fitness goals as possible – the reward of knowing their older years will be spent enjoying life rather than just existing!
